Do not upgrade.. reformat
October 27, 2006
I upgraded my newly reformatted laptop(Stargazer) from Ubuntu Dapper(6.06) to Edgy Eft(6.10). It took more than ten hours to download the packages and install on my system. Most of the things worked except that tty1-tty6 was broken. I also had some problems with XVideo support. I am a bit irritated by the error messages of mplayer. The video still plays but I find the error message annoying.
Now I am downloading the install CD. Reformatting(I hope) might fix the problem.

Update 1:
The CD where I burned the Edgy image turns out to be bad. MD5 of the image is okay. The media must be the problem. Redownloading it on my desktop. My laptop is not so useable now.
Update 2:
After the reformat I still have the same problems. Actually I ran into a lot of problems. For some reason the image would not write on the medias that I have. What I did was burn it into a DVD. It installed fine after that but I still have the tty1-tty6 and mplayer problem.

I’m still thinking if I will downgrade to Dapper. I might if I encounter some stability problems. Gaim 2.0 and Firefox 2.0 are good enough reason for me to upgrade.

Today’s contestant in ABS-CBN’s Deal or No Deal opened the briefcases 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 13 in succession. She told Kris that she was following a sequence. She used the Fibonacci Sequence. At least today’s episode was a bit interesting(in a geeky kind of way). As an added bonus the girl was cute.

The Departed
October 22, 2006
I watched “The Departed” last night with my friends. The movie is an adaptation of the HK movie Infernal Affairs. The adaptation was good except for one thing. I did not like the part where they fell in love with the same woman. It was a twist, but it was unnecessary.
What I like better in the original movie was that they communicated in Morse code(in the Departed they texted).
